The report, The Connected Kingdom: How the Internet is Transforming the UK, goes on to show that this £100billion market is growing at 10% a year and employs over 250,000 people.

Furthermore, it shows that 73% of UK homes have broadband internet, demonstrating the growing importance of it and the importance of it to businesses. With 60% of the £100billion a year spent on online shopping and buying devices for the internet, it shows the immense value for businesses.

Many small businesses directly engaged with the internet report sales growth that is four times higher than those businesses not as active online. Plus, the UK is the leading nation for e-commerce, with every £1 spent on imports, £2.80 received for exports.

This should demonstrate the value of the internet to businesses of all sizes and how, by having a successful online presence, it can improve overall performance.

Google refines search results

Google has now been updated so your searches can now be more refined. Earlier this week Google updated its interface when you punched in a search queries. Google have given you more options to narrow down your searches so that you get to the information you need quicker and easier.

The previous two-section approach is being phased out and they are making space for a three-section interface, with a left hand column appearing. This column will exhibit a plethora of new choices to help you narrow down your search.

We say new choices; they aren't really as they are inspired by Universal Search, the search options panel and Google Squared. Instead of many of these being hidden on the site they will now be emblazoned alongside your search results to help you make more informed choices. Paid for ads will still be displayed on the right hand side.

Google Local Results gets overall

Google changing to aim at delivering more local search results. As part of this drive they have rebranded Google Local Business Centre and brought it in line with their Place Pages. The result is the rather hip sounding – Google Places.

A google Press released said "One out of five searches on Google are related to location, and we want to make sure that businesses are able to be found and put their best foot forward. We’re excited to announce Google Places today, as it’s just the beginning of what’s to come from our efforts to make Google more local"

Google hopes that this rebarand will bring the old Local Business Centre up to speed with the popular Place Pages. These changes will only affect Google.com and US initially.

The Place Pages, which are found in the Google local searches, offer images, reviews and contact information for businesses and have proved to be very popular in allowing people to better decide what business to use or where to go.

Google annouced the following new features to Google local:

Service areas: If you travel to serve customers, you can now show which geographic areas you serve. And if you run a business without a storefront or office location, you can now make your address private.
A new, simple way to advertise: For just $25 per month, businesses in select cities can make their listings stand out on Google.com and Google Maps with Tags. As of today, we’re rolling out Tags to three new cities — Austin, Atlanta and Washington, D.C. — in addition to ongoing availability in Houston and San Jose, CA. In the coming weeks we'll also be introducing Tags in Chicago, San Diego, Seattle, Boulder, and San Francisco.
Business photo shoots: In addition to uploading your own photos, businesses in select cities can now request a free photo shoot of the interior of their business which we'll use to supplement existing photos of businesses on Place Pages. We've been experimenting with this over the past few months, and now have created a site (note: live as of 9pm PDT) for businesses to learn more and express their interest in participating.
Customized QR codes: From the dashboard page of Google Places, businesses in the U.S. can download a QR code that’s unique to their business, directly from their dashboard page. QR codes can be placed on business cards or other marketing materials, and customers can scan them with certain smartphones to be taken directly to the mobile version of the Place Page for that business.
Favorite Places: We're doing a second round of our Favorite Places program, and are mailing window decals to 50,000 businesses around the US. These decals include a QR code that can be scanned with a smartphone to directly view the mobile Place Page for the business to learn more about their great offerings.

I thought I would update you all on the latest algorithm change that effects Good Search rankings and that is website speed. No longer will poorly developed website that are slow be enough to get you to the top of google. You now need to make sure that your website is built to be fast to be search engine optimised .

As always Modeware only produces the highest quality website and so none of our website would be faced with this problem. :)

Myth of Soma - Licence

I recently have been trying to aquire the licence to run the massive multiplayer online roleplaying game called "Myth Of Soma". The game was orginally made by ComnJoy who was bought out by mgame a Korean company. The english conversion was run by Game network a division of Digital Brother's. So far I have tried to contact both parties without any luck.

Modeware is still looking for a potential MMORPG title that we can run in europe and USA.

Google provides more data in Top Search Queries

Google now provides site owners who are frequent users of the 'Top Search Queries" tool in Google webmaster tools more detailed data for each search term. Previously Google used to just provide a report showing the average position at which your website's pages appeared in the search results for a particular search term. Now you can expand on a search query in the Top search Queries report to see a breakdown of the number of impressions and the number of click throughs for each position that your website's pages appeared at in google search results associated with that query. Impressions are the number of times that your website's pages appeared in the search results for the query. Clickthrough is the number of times searchers clicked on that query's search results to visit a page from your site. In addition to impressions and click through numbers, you can now see a list of your website's pages that were linked to from the search results for that search query. Google has generally increased the detail of the data overall.

Google have now increased the amount of Top search queries you can see past 100 giving you a much larger sampling of quiries your website returns in search results.

Previously if search engine consultants wanted to report top search queries we had to download a website's data and generate our own charts. This will now save SEO's lots of time and effort with the ability to generate charts automatically within the page.

The chart now provides data similar to Google Analytics. I think these new features will really help improve SEO's effectiveness.
